- Starting battery have lots of thin plates that give a large amount of current for starting big engines (spec'd as Cold Cranking Amps).
- A Deep Cycle battery has very thick heavy plates that give a lower amount of amps for a very long time (spec'd as Amp Hours). They usually cannot supply enough current for starting for very long. A 12 volt, 200 AH battery will weigh 100+ lbs. (my 210AH battery weighs 124 lbs.).
- A Marine or Hybrid battery is a compromise. Most marine batteries are designed to both start a boat engine and run a trolling motor. A marine battery should have a CCA rating and may also have a AH rating.
