Someone in the truck turning the wheels slowly from side to side. Also a rocking motion on the steering wheel. Turn the steering wheel until loaded and then turn it in the opposite direction and repeat several times while the inspector is checking things out.
When raised grab the wheel at the top and bottom and check for movement.
The plastic cup that rides on the upper cone can wear or break. Dynatrac makes a kit that eliminates the spring and uses a brass cone. There are other designs that do much the same thing.
My dana 60 with over 100 thousand miles has never been touched - no wobble - it does have a steering stabilizer.
The Dana in my Carryall has 5 thousand miles on it, no stabilizer but does have ram assist. There is a reason many OEM vehicles came with a steering stabilizer.
I have installed them on hot rod straight axles for years on front ends - would not hesitate to add one. Makes the vehicle safer if you hit a pot hole or garbage on a highway.
