One of the main problems with using yourself as a volt meter is there is no way to calibrate yourself beyond "Nope.. nuthin." to "ZEooew!~". And is "ZEooew!~" enough to run the car?
Easier test, grab an old spark plug pop a wire on it and lay it on the head of the engine. Have the wife turn it over and have a look at the gap. Spark? No spark? Yellow spark, blue spark? Much finer gradient of data than the human volt meter. Less stress on the sytem too.
Can't believe you tried it past the first one.
