Mine wouldn't start after working on the points.
I'd parked near my shop and filed the points a tad, thinking they were in need of it. Wouldn't fire at all! I'd originally thought I'd flooded it. So we (Son & I) walked around the corner and had lunch. Thought about it.
Subconscious told me there was something odd about how the cap went back on. Tried pulling off the cap and reinstalling it. There was a "click" as it keyed into place. Hit the starter and we were up and running. It hadn't keyed into place the firs two times I'd put it back on and I hadn't noticed.
Its a possibility; and it doesn't really show unless you really check for it.
