Interesting that they did it to get glycerine. Nowadays the country is awash in useless glycerine thanks to biodiesel producers. The normal biodiesel process produces glycerine as a waste product. A soap-maker I know is constantly getting calls from small-time biodiesel guys who want to sell her glycerine for soap-making, but she won't even take it if it's free.
