If he is going on the modern chassis, he will probably drive the truck like a modern truck as well unless he knows something about tires. I personally would not trust NDT's at modern highway speeds and stopping the thing would be downright scary....
We had brand new Firehawk (or something like that) NDT's on our 5 ton brush truck. Speed was never an issue, but there were several times where the front tires would slide under hard braking on the hardball and they were downright dangerous on snow packed or icy roads (yes, a big 5 ton rolls on structure fires here, we don't have many wildland fires during the winter around here)...we have the standard Goodyear commercial treads on it now and no issues though they do tend to flat spot.
