fuel troubleshooting carb

I have had my engine running for the past 2 plus years with a professionally rebuilt carb. It just failed to start and seems to be a fuel problem. Gas is getting to the carb from the fuel pump and a container with a short hose. If I put some gas or starting fluid down the carb it start for 2 seconds but will not run on its own. reading the posts, sounds like checking to see if there is gas in the bowl would be next. Any ideas first? Carb is Carter WA 1
