The original turbo mufflers, developed for the turbocharged Corvair, were a chambered design, which caused the exhaust to take a single loop, inside the muffler.
These days, the term turbo muffler gets used (misused?) for all types of designs, many of which are not chambered. I've seen so-called turbo mufflers which were a glass pack that just zig zagged the flow slightly, and you cold look through them from inlet to outlet. A chambered design will be the quietest. It's best to see a cutaway of a design before buying. Beware of designs which neck down inside, and I recall that double wrap is more durable than single wrap. Also, some designs offer options with regard to where the inlet/outlet placement on the body of the muffler, such as offset/center or offset/offset, which helps in getting the mufflers to fit properly.
