only the 4 speed was pure crash box.
This is the 5 speed pic from 1941 truck manual. same design as the later NP540. maybe even the same tranny in many ways they just didn't call them NP540s back t hen. kinda like they didn't call the NP200 tcase that until years after they were making it. everything was just a long part number instead of a model number
