A couple months ago I picked up what I believe to be a 4.236 (The numbers and locations don't make sense, but it does have a "236" stamped on one of the casting pads) Perkins diesel engine from a Hesston hay thresher. The machine had set for decades and was destined for the scrap heap but I was able to get ahold of the motor, diesel and hyd. tank, as well as the rear hydraulic pump (For the steering and header cyls.). It turns over freely, but not too freely and feels like it is pushing good compression. It's a roosa pump and NA motor. My dilemma is just what the heck to do with the darn thing. Being an NA 236 it should be in the 60HP arena and from what I've seen it could make up to 100 with a turbo and some internal upgrades which would make it just about right for a PW... A friend of mine have had an idea of using it as a powerplant for a multi-use platform. Generator, water pump, hydraulic power for a rough cut saw mill....and of course a home made tracked crawler....
Any Ideas?
PW content: I am preparing for Iowa. Got the Cummins 2500 Suburban painted (Massey Ferguson Gray with Matte Black) and I am starting on reworking the "new" lighter weight car trailer this weekend. It's basically going to be building a trailer from near the ground up....but the parts are already in a near trailer configuration LOL.
