My 51 came with a tired 1968 318, hydraulic NP420 and an unsafe single circuit remote power brake booster setup. If you upgrade the brakes it makes sense to go the whole hydroboost setup so that's what I did.
It's been 11 weeks since I bought the donor engine and today I got the brakes bled to my satisfaction and ran some errands with it. Tons of power, runs great, steering feels totally natural but the brakes are still a little soft. Now that it's running, I'll be ordering a TBI kit to replace the carb.
If anyone has any questions on how to integrate the following parts into one truck, please feel free to contact me. I'm in the Detroit area if anyone wants to see it in person.
2000 Magnum 5.9L w/serpentine drive & carb
160A Denso alternator
1960's Dodge two core radiator
1960's NP420 (came in truck)
Mid-60's hydraulic bellhousing (requires custom balanced flywheel for the 5.9)
1991 Chevy V3500 Hydroboost system (with custom lines)
Pedal box cut from a 60's Dodge truck
Power steering conversion with Lares 997 box (the standard kit)
