Age is the issue...
The last production run of those tires was in 2008 I believe. Typically, the DOT suggests only a 4 year life cycle for a tire. Granted storing them in a humidity controlled and UV absent environment will prolong their life before use, there is still the risk of dry rot and creep.
$500 - 1000 for a set, they are worth more than that to the PW crowd I'd think. I've been seeing 80% tread ones going on Ebay for around $325 each still. The last XMLs I bought, I paid $300 plus the shipping from Florida to Viriginia.
