Seems like you are searching for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
Power-Wagon axle shafts are no more likely to break than any other truck manufactured around the same time period. True, most Power-Wagons were asked to do the work that a 1-1/2 ton truck should have been doing. But, I think this is testament to their durability.
Some may be inclined to say that you are spindling too much time trying to reinvent the dual wheel.
