yea--pretty heavy duty half ton stuff
true they rarely break and who knows how old and worn they are when they break
but they sure to break at wierd scenarios
my pw guru broke his backing out his driveway back in the day and he was an m37 and pw nut
i, m of the op that the spindle is a little weak out on the end where the wheel flange on the wdx s etc.--the half ton hub is further in--wonder how many of those break--
the larger wheels tires and diffs and torque may flex the end of the spindle and further compromise the already compromised axle from said torque from a dead stop or some such
i was looking at the spindle and one could drive on(press fit) a tapered collar(sleeve) that fits the taper of the spindle between the race seats with an od a hair less than the inner race seat so the inner race can still slide on and weld or tack weld in 3 or 4 places therefore reinforcing the spindle(that is if one can weld on a spindle)
when i bought my 57 parts truck from an oilfield service outfit he said he had problems with the axles breaking(he was running duals) the owner said that he thought that was the problem that the wheel flange was too far out and the heavy load and torque compromised it
the rear left spindle was cracked when i dissassembled it
