318 auto to NP420

Looking at a possible parts truck with a 318 & auto tranny. Will that engine bolt up to a 4-speed with the same bell housing? Does it matter whether the NP420 was mated to a 225 slant 6 or to a 230 flathead? Seems like I've read here that the cranks are different between engines built for auto trannies versus manual.
