Also, those that Spence mentioned as being made for the M601 were actually available as an option for the civilian trucks and are shown in the civilian parts lists. They first appear and are shown as a new number, not previously listed, in the MoPar Dodge Power-Wagon Parts List D-13864, issued July, 1951.
They are found in an unusual place under the heading "Front Bumper Guards". The part type code is 13-68-32 and the description reads as follows: Guard, Headlamp. Part No. 1276 588. Two required for WDX and PW model codes.
Attaching hardware consisted of: (4) 3/8"-24 x 1 3/4" screws, Part No. 120 647 and (4) Nut, Part No. 120 369.
So, the military adapted another civilian part for their purpose! Those headlight guards were a rare option on a civilian truck, but correct nonetheless.
