I just installed a 2-sped transfer case in my ’42 Carryall.
An unexpected result is that the front driveshaft now needs to be about an inch shorter. It needs to be 33-1/2" (measured from the center of the U-joints). Before modification, the Carryall driveshaft and the civilian Power Wagon driveshaft were the same 34-1/2”.
I’m going to have to shorten the driveshaft so it has room to compress with suspension travel. I’m just wondering how this happened. Could ride height of the ¾-ton and 1-ton trucks be different enough to cause this? I think I put the transfer case in the right place. I used my ’52 Power Wagon donor vehicle as a template. It still had unused holes for the WC transfer case stamped in the crossmember. I used them as reference points when drilling holes in the Carryall crossmember.
