Keep in mind that a "hot rod" from those days usually used whatever perfomance engine was available. The small block Chevy, the Y-block Ford, the Ford flathead, the Buick, the Olds, all were used, as well as others. And yes, under your definition, the older Hemis would fit this descr1ption, as there was little else performance from Chrysler. Also keep in mind that to be period correct you'd need to use cheater slicks and three to six Stromberg carbs. By going to the newer crate Hemi, you're now stepping over your own boundry. In that class, all the other perfomance engines of the 60's, 70's & 80's come into play. Don't forget the dark gray primer paint, red rims and moon hubcaps. Maybe whitewalls for the cheater slicks.
So, yes, I'll agree with you providing you are defining a classic hot rod and are running period engines and equipment. Otherwise, the inclusion of a modern form of the engine and other modern equipment no longer makes it a classic hot rod and anything goes.
