Kaegi, one of the best war stories I've ever read is a book by Col David Hackworth (now deceased) "About Face". His praise for the jungle fighters from Australia is unbounded.
He sent his American team leaders in Vietnam to learn from them. He was told it was not American policy, so he kept getting a few out at time to learn their ways. The book covers his military life from the immediate insurgent days following WWII, to hellish battle in Korea, to the tactics he used to turn a mutinous battalion around in Vietnam.
