Not only are they merely cast iron instead of better metallurgy, mine didn't work well either.
I guess I would go wtih shimming the drum first, and if that doesn't do it, shim under the U bracket that holds the handle- if that doens't throw the detent hole alignment off?
Them better nuts one the spring rod too- a thin nut first, so the thick nut can act as a lock. You need the double nuts on the outer end so they don't unscrew. Or use one ny-lock. And they shouldn't clamp down on the bracket, they need to wobble/pivot. In fact, inner nuts prevent the spring from functioning.
