I am with Marty on this one. Since 1981, I have had only one diaphragm fail in any of my mechanical fuel pumps, and that pump was old and was on the truck when I bought it in 1980. I have always bought the cheapest gasoline possible because that is what these trucks were designed to run on, which means I have run a lot of ethanol through my pumps.
I would be more concerned about the pivot pins falling out of modern mechanical pumps before I would worry about today's fuel hurting them.
