Hi Dan - ignition point is dependent on the composition of the gas in question. It is easier for CNG which is typically methane gas but for LNG it depends on the mixture physical properties (propane, butane, etc.). The other issue is what causes the ignition in the first place and that again depends on mixture composition and does not require diesel in a pure scientific perspective. Any LPG mix will ignite when you have LPG(fuel), oxygen(air), and energy(spark or heat of compression). It is typically described as the explosive envelope and these engines are controlled explosions.
