Timkens were used in WWII in White M-3 Scout Cars, Ford M-20 Armored Cars and GTB trucks (Ford owned Timken), GMC CCKW's (throughout the war, and also pre-WWII GMC trucks), Studebaker US-6 6X6's, and probably others that I am not aware of. They were also used in the post-WWII aircraft carrier flight deck starter vehicles (basically a huge generator APU on wheels).
The US Army really loved Timken axles before WWII- they specified them in many pre-WWII vehicles. The axle won't take the higher weights of the post-WWII trucks, took lots of maintenance and time to overhaul, and that is why it's use faded out after WWII. Don't cut them up! Timken internal parts are hard to find. But you will need to figure out where they go. There were many different versions- for example GTB axles won't fit M-20 axles or CCKW's, but Scout car front axles will fit CCKW's.

BTW, if that steering axle is off a CCKW or Scout Car, I might have to make my way to WV.... Is the steering axle equipped with a demountable brake drum? I am looking for one for my CCKW tipper.
