I don't thinkthat is why is smaller. all the distributors were like that on mopars back then and they don't have a clearance issue. maybe the housing had sludge build up? I know the housing sticks in the block beyond the bottom of the hole.
I would think the 230 would have the same problem especially with the longer stoke. ??
