In a lower entry you said it is in compression during some turns. If the cosmetics not a problem and you have room, why not truss it. weld a high spot at the bend or middle of the rod and weld some 1/4 or 3/8 rod to the end up over the high spot and down to the other end. Do this on 4 sides of the rod 12,3,6,9 o'clock to strengthen the rod till proper replacement is available.
