Justin, that link was to a thread on my bad experience with a fuel pump. So the problem is not a recent one. It has been ongoing since at least 1989. I can't believe I am still driving on a piston rod with a bunch of half-moon divots filed into it 28 years later.
Hopefully your damage is minimal. Be sure to inspect the lower ends of your cylinder walls. You may not have heard it, but those parts could have been caught by the crankshaft and tossed around inside.
