My dually is just fine in the snow. But I always run just under 8,500 lbs on the rear axle (about 13,000 GVW). The back end did break free once going down a steep dark 2 lane highway in Northern California late one night. I tapped the brakes to stop to help a guy in the ditch at the bottom of the hill. I immediately found out why he was in the ditch. My truck immediately started to go sideways on the ice. I got it straighten out and kept going and let the snowplow coming towards me check on the guy. That section of road is always bad in that section due the shade from the trees.

I have many trips traveling 100's of miles through mountains in snow and ice with the dully,!which is a 4 X 4, without any problems. The only exception is the one incident above.

I would not take a dually out in snow or ice without lots weight in the bed. There is just too much tire surface area compared to weight of an empty truck which means it will float over the ice and snow.
