I have read that 600 could lead to adhesion problems. I am no expert but here is a mirror I painted with a metallic base and SPI clear. This is as I sprayed it. It has not been polished in any way, and you can see a run on the upper edge that I need to sand down. The primer was wet sanded with 400 before the base coat.
