A 542 is a derivative of a 540 and like a 540 will have 4 gears up and only 2 on the lower quadrant . If it is direct 1-2-4 and reverse will be on top and 3 and 5 will be on the lower 1/2 . If it is an overdrive
1-2-5 and reverse will be on top and 3&4 will occupy the lower part .
