Rust preventative coatings, settled on POR-15

I've been playing around with a variety of paint over the years, including zero rust, which I found to do a good job. Finally I spent the money to get a bunch of POR-15, and have been blown away by how tough the stuff is! I even decided to use it on the balls at the ends of the front axel on my B4, and it filled in the pits nicely. No more rust there! I have found that the silver, which has powdered metal in it, covers a bit thicker than the grey, which is about the consistancy of cream, and seems best for a first coat on rims or other things where you want it to wick into the crack between the center and the rim. The silver will start to yellow after only a day in sunlight, but they say it is only cosmetic, so you might want to topcoat it if exposed. I couldn't scratch through it with a screwdriver. It gets very smooth and hard, and I found that you really must topcoat while it is still slightly tacky to get a good bond, even with their chassis black topcoat. The biggest drawback I see is that I just throw away the paintbrush when I'm done with a coat. I have been painting over sandblasted metal, using their metal-ready, so I don't have any experience yet over rusty metal. I have no connection to the manufacturer, but I'm sold on the stuff. Rob
