Personally I wish they would have just policed the people who were abusing it by overcharging for shipping instead of penalizing everyone else. It's all about fee gathering to up their profits, don't kid yourself. They don't realize it but they have COST themselves profits as Most everyone I know who sells no longer lists heavy items with low opening bids. It is very likely you will end up losing money after the fees if it is under $5.00 selling price and your shipping is higher because of that weight.
An example is glass stuff. I used to list it all the time and take a chance. Lots of times something I thought wasn't worth much, was to several others who knew what it was. Now, I and others, don't take the chance as the potential gain is overshadowed by the high shipping cost fees. Even when actual shipping fees are in place, which I always tried to do.
3% on all the shipping charged on Ebay is MEGA money!
