1965 Dodge D300

Hi,
I have a 1965 Dodge D300 4x4 power wagon dually flatbed truck. It was special ordered for the Navy. The Navy ID card is still inside of the cab on the roof.
I have two questions.
First question-Why does it say D300 on the Vehicle ID Card and the Navy ID card. I thought D stood for 2wd.
Second question- I can't find brakes for the truck, is it because the truck has d500 suspension?
Any information about this would really be appreciate it.
