I know some of you are probably getting a bit tired of my Chebby Cummins swap so I'll make it kind of short....i assure you i will use it to haul my WC.
I swapped in the 454 radiator and finally got all the air out of the block. Took it on a 12 mile drive at about 55 the whole way and things seem good. Engine temp topped out at about 180 and the transmission at 160. I am running the temp sensor in the outlet from the torque converter to the cooler.
I have to say that while the sensation of power is much better than the 454, something still isn't right. Though it shifts through all the gears, i don't think the torque converter is locking up. It feels like it didn't down shift (even though you hear it) and is accelerating in a higher gear. I need to look over the diagrams a bit more, maybe i have a ground not connected. According to the FSM, the lockup goes straight from the PCM to the lockup solenoid in the trans so....
Im pretty sure i have a small air leak into the fuel system, probably back by the tank, I need to wire in the OD switch, figure out the AC, and get the speedo working. I also discovered a rodent nest in the rear ac cover....little bastard, maybe that's why the speedo isn't working.
Still plugging but at least it's back under its own power.
