Turn up the power, make sure you have a good ground, do NOT try to run a bead, just tack it in different spots, back and forth until you have a complete weld. Also, I like to quench it with a wet rag every few spot welds, this keeps the warp-age down. Dont start on the edge of the panel, start next to the edge and drag it over..
If you are going do a lot of this type of work get the shielding gas kit, the welds are much better. The inner-shield wire that you are now using creates a gas by burning the material inside the wire, this gas is expanding out of your arc & weld puddle, thus you will often get air pockets in your weld.
