I use Brown quite a bit when I need just one of some standard bearing or seal and need it right away. Can't find any pony motor gaskets and bearings on-line so will call around today, starting with Norcan up in Hillyard. One on-line listing was for USED head gaskets, which makes me think new ones are mighty scarce.
Still thinking a better approach for these old cats, if you just want to get the job done, would be to fabricate an adapter plate to mount a generic "lawn mower motor". They make 24V electric starting motors, which seems even worse to me because then you need to carry around enough batteries to crank for 5 or 10 minutes continuous. Why not a small modern "disposable" gas engine with a pull start? Either way you've had to torch a big hole in the dash or throw out the dash and hood entirely. And either way you have to make and mount a suitable drive gear to drive the starter pinion. But I will try to find pony parts first.
