Dan M has a ISB in one of his latest builds , he can fill us in on what 4 banger has the best bang for the buck. He has driven more variations of the 4cyl Cummins than anyone else on this thread.
If you go the 4 cylinder route I would recommend tucking an intercooler under the rad shroud and going for a shorter rad. Several folks here have gone this route.
I am happy with mine but it is a bit underpowered on hills, that said I do not have an intercooler and my turbo is not working properly. I have gone 6o miles an hour on the highway without any issues- at 1900 RPM.
Fuel milage is great, no clue what it is but it is closer to 30 MPG than 20 MPG.
The ZF 6 speed will hook up but the ones I have seen have two overdrive gears, I would like closer gears between 2-3 and 3-4 than what the NV4500 has.
I think an 4cyl ISB and an Allison 6 spd would be about perfect, toss in twin transfers and 4.88 gears on 40 inch tires and you would not want more.
