Yeah, it was listed on eBay half a dozen times or more and never broke $20k. By the time that luxury auto dealer in Houston realized it was not fit for their clientele (that's a compliment to the truck, by the way), it was probably priced reasonably for what it is.
It's just a shame that it hasn't found an owner that appreciates it for what it is. A lot of thought went into the Hercules conversion to make it functional and in keeping with the character of a 70-year-old tactical military vehicle. I see nothing wrong with hanging a high price tag on a vehicle if that reflects your high opinion of the vehicle, but threatening to put in an automatic transmission reveals a serious lack of appreciation for what that truck truly is. The MARS conversion beautifully matched the diesel with a Dodge transmission that adds synchronizers but still fits the floor, pedals, ebrake PTO, and transfercase all in their original positions. That is the heart of this truck build. An automatic is not going to help this truck break the 65 mph speed barrier. Before throwing all of that craftsmanship away for an automatic that will eliminate all of those elegant figment details, the seller should just buy a Hummer. Give him an H2 with a star painted on the door, let this truck live on, and we'll all be happy.
So, I guess I am saying that I hope he gets his $150k.
