Looking for something that will close when the coolant is at normal operating temperature. Here's the issue: Last year I put a weber carb on the slant 6 in the Mine Tour trolley. If it was my rig, I would have put a manual choke on it like I have on my D300. It turns out it only needs a little bit of choke and once started and running for a few seconds, it can go off choke. But I don't think all the trolley drivers can be relied on to operate a manual choke properly.
The problem is in the way they use it. It sits for 15 minutes between tours, or 45 minutes if they skip a tour due to lack of customers. In that amount of time, the electric choke coil cools down and the choke closes, but the engine itself is still warm. They go to start it and it floods out sometimes and always runs rich for a little while. I already backed off the electric choke such that it just barely closes when the engine is thoroughly cold.
If I had a switch that would close when the engine was warm (not over-heated, like an idiot light switch, but just normal temperature) I would wire that up to keep power to the electric choke even when the ignition is off. Once they park it at the end of the day, it would continue to draw power until the engine cooled down, but I don't think it would be enough to run the battery down.
Now the question is where to find such a switch? Any ideas?
