Went to fire up my good stihl chain saw the other day and noticed something was rattling inside the housing. I cut a lot of wood with it last fall and don't remember any rattle. Turned it upside down and shook it every which way and nothing came out. Fired it up again and it seemed to run fine. Took off the chain guard and sprocket guard and it still rattled. Took the spark plug out and shook a 1" long machine screw out from inside the cylinder. I can't imagine how it could have bounced around in there while the engine was running and never got jammed in the intake or exhaust port and destroyed the engine. All I can figure is somebody accidentally dropped it down the carburetor years ago. Anybody else find any surprises inside an engine?
