You are right, most of what the NTSB has is incident reports and manufacturer warnings/ advisories. I wish there was more of a technical, scientific explanation for the breakdown due to age.
Perhaps it is still controversial as to the exact cause.
I wonder if the tire design and manufacturing process, being considerably different with a radial vs bias, makes radials more susceptible to this?
I thought it was interesting on page 26, where it mentions the data from states with hotter weather show a big increase in incidence of these failures. So, obviously ambient temperature is a factor one would think.
