THIS ISN'T MINE!! All I know about this truck is printed here, or you can call Bill Fargen ((605) 542-2681, or e-mail - bill@ebankstar.com) at the Bank Star Financial in Elkton, SD, but, since I've talked to him, he doesn't know any more than is reported here. (No photos available, no keys, but a clear title!) (Elkton, SD is south of Brookings, north of Sioux Falls, right next to the Minnesota state line. Elkton is a good old small town! "Population: Depends on if you're staying for supper or not!")
While visiting my Uncle Jim up in SoDak, I spotted a blue Dodge Crew cab in an alley. Didn't look to bad, but we didn't have time to stop and look it over. Too bad, I know, I sure could have found out more than the banker knew. Uncle Jim found out the bank owns it and he spoke with Bill. It turns out the "owner" flew the coop on the bank and left them holding the loan (and one for the car he stole, thus there's no key for it) and they're sitting on about $1,500 for the truck. When I talked to Bill all he had was the title in front of him; 1971 Dodge Four Door. I asked Bill other questions so he was nice enough to run out and take a look at the truck and see what he could tell about the truck. Mileage appears to be 56,000, some rust around the bottom of the doors, when you open them, but the exterior is in pretty decent shape considering the SD winters! From the door tag Bill got; 318, 4:10 gears, A727 auto tranny, 5,500 rear axle, 3,800 front
Bill provided the VIN which I compared to 69-77 Dodge truck page and came up with the following: D25BE1S381855
D2 D-200
5 Crew Cab with Utiline box; Mid Line Wagon
B 6,001 to 10,000 GVW
E LA 318-1
1 '71 G series
S Warren Truck #1 (Incl. Compacts - `70)
381855 1971 Production Year (Aug. 1970, July 1971) Commences with Sequence
Number 300001
So, there you have it. According to my Uncle and Bill, its been sitting for a couple of years, but sounds like a pretty good deal for someone that's semi-close. Don't look at me, I've got two in my driveway, this one would lead to divorce court.
