Presenting the facts in a calm manner regarding this terrible piece of legislation will do more good than getting people all excited about erroneous information.
I take exception to the assertion that the government might"...REQUIRE YOU under penalty of a FELONY to demil your own property in the same manner AT YOUR EXPENSE AND WITHOUT RESTITUTION (ie - you won't get paid the value of your property).
If you purchased your property legally, you would be compensated according to section:
"(2) If the person in possession of significant military equipment obtained the equipment in accordance with any other provision of law, the Secretary of Defense shall bear all costs of transportation and demilitarization of the equipment and shall either--
(A) return the equipment to the person upon completion of the demilitarization; or
(B) reimburse the person for the cost incurred by that person to acquire the equipment if the Secretary determines that the cost to demilitarize and return the property to the person would be prohibitive."
That is a far cry from having your property taken without compensation. Senator Levin may be a weasel, but he is not stupid. Even he knows that the constitution prohibits taking property without due process of law. (On second thought, maybe its too bad the bill is not written the way Brian believes. If it were signed into law, it would be quickly found unconstitutional.
Don't misunderstand me, this section 1062 is APALLING! Let's hope that the House/Senate conference committee recognizes that and throws it out of the final version.
But don't count on it! Lets continue to speak out to the people who can change things--the Congress of the United States of America. Call, email, and write! (in that order)
