Jim Bob: If I included all the details, I could bring the internet to its knees. Actually, now that I think about it, the touble started when I swapped engines, after the cab. The previous owner had stuck in an old y-block because the original 360 had a cracked head. (Why not just replace the head)? But the trans mission doesn't bolt up now does it? So he had pieced parts of trans. from the car the engine came from together with the short shaft truck trans. that bolts to the transfer case. I was having trouble keeping transmissions together so I got a 318 with trans from a 79 Rumchugger. (The Y-block was tired anyway) but it always started and ran pretty good.So now your'e thinking, Aha! Problem started with engine swap; bad pickup coil. Well, no, the "new" enginge had a bad vacum advance, so I took the distributor out of the Y-block, which probably originally came out of the 360. See what I mean?
