Galen,
It's true, military NDT's are VERY slippery on wet asphalt. They break loose with little warning. I feel they precipitated a lot of the accidents with M151's that were later blamed on the suspension. I had a dandy of a skidding accident with an M-35A2 on a wet road in Ky, while in the Army, that I'm sure never would have happened with chevron cleat tires. Look at these Kelly Springfields and you'll find they still make a great bias ply 9.00 16 LT tire that has staggered chevron cleats much like an old Armstrong Tru-Trac. They also have the cleats run up onto the sidewalls quite a bit, and are made of a very gummy sticky but long-wearing compound like the Armstrongs. FWIW, K-S also makes a knockoff of the old Tru-Trac, but alas, not in the 16 inch size. The local K-S dealer is on NJ Rt. 206 near exit 7 of the turnpike, at the super truck stop in Bordentown. If you like, I'll call them and get a mounted price for you. And yes, they WILL work with the budd wheels.
Regards,
Jack
