The 2.8L GM V6 was used only in the S-10/S-15 pickups, and the low end economy cars, and its performance in those platforms, where the vehicle weight was not more than about 3,000 lbs. was marginally satisfactory; So I would avoid that consideration if I were you. In my view, given the weight of these trucks, an engine of the 350 CuIn(5.7L), or 360 CuIn class would be the practical minimum for a swap as far as a gasoline engine is concerned, or a diesel; basically, any engine that is capable of producing abou 325 or more foot pounds of torque at the lower revs where these trucks operate. There are a lot of people participating in this forum, who have an awful lot of experience in this subject; check the archives out, there are several entries in them regarding this subject, and don't feel uncomfortable about asking questions. You will likely get more info and help than you ever imagined. I think your truck with the 360 would be a great freeway runner; not too many smart people would challenge you. I lived in South Orange County for 25 years, and commuted to places all over the south and central parts of the state occasionally, and spent more time than I care to think about driving in that mess, which I feel partly responsible or, having worked for SoCal Edison for 35 years.
Good luck with your project. Please let us (the forum) know how it works out.)
OK! I've got my boiler plate, and my flower pot on. You 318 guys can commence to begin!
By the way. I believe the Poly 318 does fit into the 320 or so torque range.
