Yes! I do have input. The 2.8 V6 will positively NOT have enough low rpm torque (or any rpm torque!) to push a 6000 lb M37 around and maintain off-road capabilities. If you insist on a gasoline transplant, do a 360. Try to find a heavy-duty 5-spd that fits without moving the T-case. Alternatively, maybe an Advance Adapters Ranger II overdrive will work. I've done some research on this overdrive/5-spd subject. With an overdrive and 4.89s, you might get 14 mpg with your 360. You will be totally unhappy with the 2.8. Consider a 4-cylinder diesel: a Cummins 4BT, a Hercules 3.7DT, or a Perkins 4.236T. They will all give you more power and torque, even more speed if geared correctly, and double the economy.
