As Wayne wrote, put the shift lever in neutral. Once the bolts are removed, you will probably have to use gentle persuasion to work the top free from the gasket beneath. As you slowly lift the shift tower upwards, peek inside to see where the shift forks engage the gears. You will need this same shift-fork to gear-slot position when you reassemble.
One last note, two of the shift tower attachment botls should be shorter than the rest. Make note of where they go. If they get mixed up, the longer bolts may interfere with the mechanical bits below.
