I completely agree with Todd that replacing the 6v motor with a 12v motor is the best route.
But I have been using this little (brand name Runtz) voltage reducer for about 4 years now with no problems. I live in Idaho and I drive the truck and use the heater all winter.
It's the little rectangular gizmo above the heater hoses. You can buy them at NAPA, Jegs, Speedway, etc.
