The model 36 MoPar Deluxe heater was the generic all-around heater for 1947. There were other "30" model variations of this heater. Some had no provisions for defrosters. Some, I believe, were even fancier than the 36. I have seen a lot of versions on ebay. The one pictured here does not even show a model number on the trim - just "MoPar Deluxe."
The center of the dash appears to have just sort of ended up being the default placement for the controls, probably because this put them close to the other controls. I don't think a true model 63 defroster cable would be long enough to reach clear to the driver's side of the steering wheel where the later model 65 etc. heaters controls mounted.
If a dealer in '47 kept a good supply of MoPar accessories on hand, chances are a model 36 would have been sold to customer after referring to the Power-Wagon parts list. A lower volume parts department probably just sold whatever they happened to have, or whatever they could get at the best price for the customer.
I do see the plastic knobs come up from time to time. VPW has had model 36 heater/s on hand each time I have rummaged through their used parts area of their warehouse.
