Fiat has their own in-house diesel connections, hence the engine in the current RAM 1500 and Jeeps. They keep the Cummins in the HD at least partially because it's a huge draw to the brand besides being a good diesel.
The other issue is that Nissan is using this because they don't have a HD series of trucks to offer, so this is meant to hit all those people who don't need a 2500 but are pushing the limits of their 1500, kind of a "heavy half". For Dodge this would just potentially compromise sales of the HD trucks, while the eco-diesel isn't any competition to the Cummins 6.
Still, it's an impressive motor and I'll be interested to see how it holds up compared to the Cummins engines we all know and love, this is a very different beast.
And yes, it would be awesome to put one in a PW!
